In April 2005 I took over the chairmanship of the Branch from John Evans
and the Branch thanks him for his support and commitment during the time he was
in office.
A new committee is in place, the full details are on the website with the
exception of a vice chairman and the election of this post will be dealt with
at the next committee meeting on 29th June 2005.
I have no doubt that for the institute as a whole we are in a period of
development and change. How that will affect individual branches is yet to be
determined, which brings me to my next point.
As a branch we are approximately 260 strong, not a small branch by any
means but we are geographically spread over a wide area with a number of
business centres. That geographical spread often means that the branch events
are poorly supported by members. Our most successful events are generally those
that are supported by other professional institutes.
The branch committee is keen to do its best for its members, to serve
members needs where possible and to encourage more attendance at branch level.
Over the years different approaches have been tried but since membership is
constantly being updated it is always helpful to review the branch members’
needs at intervals.
At my suggestion it was agreed that we should send out a questionnaire
with the hope that we receive a good response so that it will guide the Branch
Committee on its way forward.
I know that nowadays one is repeatedly asked to complete questionnaires
and because of this, individuals shy away from participating.
I do hope that you will read the questionnaire and complete it, with your
help it will enable the committee to try to mould the branches activities to
serve your needs better. The questionnaire has been designed to be completed as
quickly and easily as possible.
Please spend a few minutes completing it. If you do it now as you read
this newsletter it will be greatly appreciated. Simply save the completed
spreadsheet and email it to me as an attachment to chair@CIArb-EM.org. It would
be helpful if you could return it no later than the end of July, but if that
cannot be achieved, please complete it when you can.
If you receive this newsletter in paper form then either complete it by
hand and fax it back to me on 0115 937 7270, or download it from our web site,
www.CIArb-EM.org and preferably return it by email.
If you wish to add other comments to your email they will be welcome.
Lastly, I look forward to meeting you all at one of our events.
I hope you all have a productive and enjoyable year.

GRANT
We are in receipt of £965.88, the first instalment
from HQ. This is a net figure after
deducting the chairman's expenses for attending the conference in Cyprus, on
behalf of the branch.
ANNUAL
DINNER
Whilst the dinner was a success, it made a loss of
£889.40, largely due to lack of support by members. Consideration as to the
direction of future dinners will be dealt with after receipt of questionnaires
sent/ to be sent, to members.
